“My livelihood”: an entrepreneur from Odessa loses all his tools and his trailer to a thief

ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) — An Odessa contractor is short of thousands of dollars after a crime this week.

Jesse Reyes, who lives near Ireland Primary School along 43rd Street, returned home on Sunday afternoon around 3.30pm to find his work trailer stolen from his front yard. A number of power tools and household repair equipment were inside the trailer. The total loss is estimated at $11,000.

For Mr. Reyes’ privacy and security, Yourbasin.com does not disclose his home address.

“It’s devastating…I mean, it’s my livelihood in this trailer. That’s what I do my job with,” Reyes told Yourbasin.com.

Reyes, who works for Permian Paint Pros, said he can do all types of repairs from home. But now he has run out of the necessary equipment, including: saws, drills, ladders, paint sprayers, plumbing supplies and painting equipment.

Neither the trailer nor the tools were covered by insurance, which Reyes regrets not having.

When Reyes realized a thief was targeting his property, he visited his neighbor, whose security camera captured the unfolding of the crime.

An older model white Chevy SUV – similar or identical to a Suburban – can be seen towing Reyes’ trailer. Two people are inside the vehicle. Reyes said the footage showed the getaway vehicle circling his block several times before heading straight to his house.

“Within a minute and a half they were gone,” Reyes said.

Reyes’ stolen trailer is solid white in color. It has diamond plating around the fenders and up front near the hitch. This is a newer model, less than 2 years old. Reyes paid around $5,000 for the trailer.

“I hope they get caught. Because people don’t deserve this. Hard working people need their stuff to get by,” Reyes said.

Reyes filed a report with the Odessa Police Department. In addition to the theft from Reyes’ home, he said detectives are investigating a similar, recent theft involving the same Chevy SUV in Odessa.

Anyone with information that may lead to the recovery of Reyes’ trailer and tools is encouraged to call the Odessa Police Department or Odessa Crime Stoppers at 333-TIPS.
