Two robberies on Vitrano Lane in Independence led Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Jimmy Travis to ask for the public’s help in identifying a suspect.

Detectives learned that on May 4 and 14, someone stole more than $1,000 worth of exercise equipment, including free weights, bars and benches, a Hobart welding machine and a rolling motor with a pedal.

Travis said a deer camera captured a person and two vehicles of interest in the incident.

Suspect wanted in Ponchatoula Walmart robbery

Ponchatoula Police Chief Bry Layrisson posted a surveillance photo on Facebook of a man suspected of stealing from Walmart. Layrisson said the suspect left the store in the passenger seat of a Ford F-150.

Ponchatoula man wanted for business burglary

After two men attempted to steal a Polaris side-by-side in commercial land, one of the men is in custody and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is looking for the other man, said chef Jimmy Travis.

On Sunday morning, deputies found Hilton Hollie, 37, of Ponchatoula, and Cory Miller, 23, of Independence, running away from a commercial lot on Acorn Drive in Ponchatoula.

Deputies arrested Miller after a short foot chase, but Travis said Hollie was still at large. As a result of the investigation, Hollie now has a warrant pending for the burglary of a business.

Inmate pointed detectives to stolen ATV

A Tangipahoa Parish Jail man gave detectives the location of a stolen ATV they were investigating, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Jimmy Travis said.

Jammie Kelly, a 48-year-old Hammond man, was taken to the parish jail on May 19, the same day the ATV was stolen in Independence, on unrelated charges.

Neighborhood surveillance video showed a man driving it, and detectives identified Kelly as a suspect soon after their investigation began on May 23. When detectives interviewed Kelly in jail, he said the 2020 Honda Rancher was in Livingston Parish, where sheriff’s deputies picked up after the interview.

“In light of the investigation, additional charges against Kelly are pending,” Travis said.

Suspect wanted for theft of dirt bike

After a dirt bike is stolen off a highway in Independence, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Jimmy Travis asks the public for help locating a suspect.

On May 18, detectives began investigating the theft of a red and white 2007 Honda CRF 150 dirt bike taken on the 1063 freeway in Independence.
