Donnie Moran Up to Sixth in Lucas Oil Late Model Championship Points Standings; Fayetteville and Virginia Motor Speedway up Next

DRESDEN, OH (June 19, 2007)-National Dirt Late Model Hall of  Famer Donnie Moran is up to sixth in the 2007 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship Points Standings after the series’ three race “Southern Swing” this past weekend.

On Thursday Night, June 14 the series visited Duck River Speedway in Wheel, TN for the first time ever with 54 cars in attendance and a packed grandstand and pit area.  Donnie would finish second in his heat race at Duck River earning a spot in the 40 lap $7,000 to win A-main.  At the end of the main event Donnie, who started seventh in the race would come home tenth in his familiar #99 MasterSbilt Impala SS.  The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event at Duck River would be won by series regular, Scott James.

On Friday Night the action switched to the North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, GA this time with 53 entries on hand and another capacity crowd to witness the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series’ first ever visit to the track.  Donnie would again finish second in his heat race to Jimmy Owens and thus earned another seventh place starting spot in the main event.  Donnie would run in the top ten for most of the race until a late race caution caused his car to tighten up dropping him back to a disappointing 18th place finish.  The race was won by TN driver Jimmy Owens.

On Saturday Night, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series action would shift back west to the Talladega Short Track in Alabama.  Donnie has experience at Talladega but it was on the big asphalt track across the street where he finished fourth in an ARCA event in the past.  His first time on the multi grooved dirt track at Talladega would prove to be tough for several of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series regulars as the track known as “The Hornet’s Nest” would keep three drivers who are in the top ten of the points on the sidelines for the main event.  Donnie unfortunately was one of those drivers as he failed to qualify for the main after finishing sixth in his B-main.  There were 64 cars on hand to race at Talladega with Owens again coming home the winner.

Donnie came out of the “Southern Swing” in sixth place in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship Points Standings.  Still looking for his first series win of ’07 Donnie hopes to turn around his fortunes this weekend with a Friday Night, June 22 visit to Fayetteville Motor Speedway in Fayetteville, NC and a Saturday Night, June 23 appearance at Virginia Motor Speedway in Saluda, VA.  Both events will pay the winner $10,000 and Saturday Night’s event at Virginia Motor Speedway will be taped by the cameras of SPEED Channel for a later broadcast.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series announced in January that it has signed a three-year agreement with SPEED Channel to broadcast on a tape delayed basis up to 40 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events in the next three years.  SPEED Channel is currently seen in over 70 million households nationwide.
