Donnie Moran Ends Month of May Ninth in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Points Standings
DRESDEN, OH (May 25, 2007)-Donnie Moran just completed the month of May for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in ninth place after twelve events. It was an up and down five events on the premier dirt late model sanctioning tour starting with Hagerstown, MD on April 28 and ending with a visit to La Salle, IL on May 19.
During the time span Moran earned two Edelbrock Hard Charger Awards for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at Hagerstown and Lucas Oil Speedway as the “Million Dollar Man” also added a LifeLong Locks Fast Time Award at Farley, IA on May 18.
Moran’s finishes were a fourth at Hagerstown (after starting 24th), a DNQ at Kentucky Lake for the “99” on May 4th and 5th, a tenth at Lucas Oil Speedway (after starting 24th), an 11th place finish at Farley and a 23rd place finish at La Salle. All of this despite driving with a broken thumb he suffered in a heat race at Hagerstown.
“We broke our thumb at Hagerstown and it started off a bad three weeks for us having to take two Provisionals, but we are pleased with the way the car performed at Hagerstown and Wheatland, at Kentucky Lake the thumb was still bothering me quite a bit, no excuses because we didn’t have the car good enough either,” said Moran.
“When we went to Wheatland to the Lucas Oil Speedway we had a few problems in the heat race, it was my fault we got bumped there, I got high on a restart then came down low and a guy tried to cross over in front of me and hit my right front and with my thumb I couldn’t grip the steering wheel properly and I just lost it, after my tie rod was bent.”
At Farley Moran was the fastest qualifier and ran as high as second in the main event for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. He stayed in the top five for most of the race before settling for an 11th place finish. The next night at La Salle Moran race would end not soon after it started. On the sixth lap a car got into Steve Casebolt forcing him to slow on the main straightaway leaving a hard charging Moran no where to go as he would be unable to slow in time as he ran into Casebolt’s car causing damage to the front end of his MasterSbilt Impala SS #99. Both drivers failed to return to the event.
So Moran ends the Month of May with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sitting ninth in points. Moran will be in action this Memorial Day Weekend at his home track Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, OH on Saturday Night, May 26 and then head to Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, OH on Sunday Night, May 27.
The next Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event for the touring group will be on Saturday Night, June 2 at the Florence Speedway in Union, KY a track that Moran has won at three times in his career.
